Palestine and Israel- A complicated story
Just imagine if your country went through this turmoil!
As like everyone else, I was unaware as to what was happening in these two countries. Right fully so, these are two independent countries as recognized by the United Nations. The story of these countries are complicated and there are intricacies that lies between them. The recent events of what is happening right now, as we speak, has shaken the world once again. Now let me remind you, this dates back to 73 years ago when this all started for the very first time.
Palestine as we call now- as the State of Palestine or Palestine occupied territory- had its on independent identity and that was a fully recognized state by the world. Israel which did not exist before 1948, found itself on the map of the world. Now as to how Israel made its way up on the world map is quiet interesting. It all began during the 1st world war as Jews wanted a safe haven and to protect themselves from anti-Semitism. Russian Empire was the first to advocate for a separate country for the Jews as they faced persecution. Constant immigration by Jews from European and Russian empire was also a cause for this. But with the collapse of the Ottoman Empire, the British took hold of Palestine. With that they drew the Balfour declaration which declared their intent for a Jewish separate state. But due to Holocausts during the 2nd world war the illegal Jews immigration started pouring in and hence the matter was referred to the United Nations by Britain which gave the solution as to create two separate states. Thus, two separate states were created carving from Palestine-Israel and Palestine.
Slowly the Israel government started occupying the Palestinian land which was earmarked by the UN. Now, Palestine consists of West Bank and Gaza and part of land has been allocated to Israel. East Jerusalem was for Palestine and West Jerusalem was for Israel. But Israel overtook those and now it is just Israel. Now cut to present, the main issue arising is because of eviction of four Palestinian families from Sheikh Jarrah-which is a Palestinian neighbor hood land-and when the Palestinian people revolted, they (IDF)attacked Al-Aqsa mosque-which is the second holiest mosque for the Muslims. They attacked it, because it is a soft spot for the Palestinian people and so as to stop the protests, which the Israeli government themselves begin this by causing the eviction.
Israel has taken full control of the Palestinian occupied terrority, which also denies them access to water, medical help, vaccination, use of air land or sea without the permission of Israel. It’s what is called open air prison. If they want to visit the Al-Aqsa mosque they have to get the permission of Israeli government-who most of the time rejects their application. At a time when the world is going through such a pandemic situation, a war like situation has further disturbed the world. Innocent women and children being killed and injured mercilessly. Children this age shouldn't have stones and guns in their hand. They should have books and innocence in them. Human rights have been overlooked by the whole world when it comes to Palestine. All the powerful countries turning a blind eye and not holding Israel accountable. Oh wait, why is that you may ask? Because USA, France and other big countries supply Israel with high technology weapons and advanced weapons to “defend themselves from Hamas or the Palestinian terrorists”. Whereas Palestinian people use stones and less equipped weapons which does not help them to defend themselves or their people.
The rightful act here would be to co-exist. A land for everyone. For Palestinian Muslims, Palestinian Christians, Palestinian Jews and Israeli Jews. The world at large should come together and stand for Palestine because this is a colonization and illegal occupation of other people’s land. 139 countries and UN recognizes the state of Palestine and they have their own embassy all over the world. The world leaders and UN should act immediately so as to put an end to this and no more innocent lives are lost. I feel helpless as I am not in a position or power to help those people and bring them out of this. But we, as people if collectively done, we can put pressure on each of our governments and force them to act for Palestine and stop this senseless violence. If only we stand together.
